Indigenization of social sciences: a weak echo of anti-colonial liberation visions

"Since the 1970ies, many attempts to indigenize the social sciences have been inspired by the belief that liberation from political colonialism must be followed by liberation from academic colonialism. Yet the attempts remained largely tied to the segmented order of disciplines which itself reflects a Eurocentric construction of social reality. To give contours to the withered horizons of liberation that would have to be regained, the essay reminds of the visions of decolonizing the mind, intellectual captivity, and the institutions of knowledge production that have been articulated by intellectuals experienced in both anti- and postcolonial resistance."
