"Diversity and Cohesion: Challenges of Increasing Social Complexity," is the topic of this year's Congress of the German Sociological Association. Impacts of labor migration are as much a topic as are the effects of transnational lifestyles. With the generation of the so-called "guest workers" entering retirement age, among others, the living circumstances of older migrants and the concomitant social challenges and opportunities for the various different social areas are increasingly coming into focus. Against the background of processes of demographic change, questions of the diversity of aging and social inequality are being taken ever more seriously. The current relevance of the topic "older migrants" is the central motive for continuing the cooperation, begun in 2006, between GESIS – Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences and the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) for processing migration-specific information from the GESIS databases SOLIS (Social Science Literature Information System) and SOFIS (Social Science Research Information System). For the first time the data has been supplemented and expanded in this context by two English language social science databases of Cambridge Scientific Abstracts (CSA) offered via national licensing. The approximately 250 research projects chosen on this basis, sub-divided into nine chapters, should embody the manifold facets of the connection between migration and aging.... view less
