"The article discusses the conflicting priorities of everyday life drinking cultures in urban spaces and in the context of private 'preloading' in relation to the contemporary governing of juvenile alcohol consumption. The theoretical Background is constructed as a cultural criminology of public drinking, offering a dialog between the works of Michel Maffesoli, E. P. Thompson and Michel Foucault. Opposite to a new 'moral economy' of drinking a 'governmentalization' of nocturnal worlds of experience is currently taking place. In this process new subjectivities like the 'Binge Drinking Offender' are invented while a local crime prevention discourse operates as discursive framework." (author's abstract)... view less
