The memory of work and the future of industrial heritage: new issues five years later

Abstract

In den letzten Jahren ist es zu einer Revitalisierung von Archiven der Arbeitswelt gekommen, teilweise wurden neue Archive gegründet. Hierzu gehören Archive zu Produktion, Handel und aus dem Dienstleistungssektor, die von den sozialen Akteuren selbst, z.B. von privaten oder öffentlichen Unternehmen, geschaffen wurden, von Berufsverbänden, Gewerkschaften, Parteien usw. Vor diesem Hintergrund möchte ich aus der Perspektive der Industriearchäologie diskutieren, was ich als einen Bedeutungswechsel innerhalb der Gesellschaft wahrnehme und befürworte: Bemühungen um ein "Memory of Work" erfahren als zentraler Bestandteil industrieller Kultur zunehmend die Bedeutung, die ihnen gesellschaftlich zukommt. Ich werde in diesem Zusammenhang eine kritische Reflexion der bisherigen Arbeit meiner Forschungsgruppe leisten und die Vorteile und Probleme zu skizzieren versuchen, vor die ein Projekt gestellt ist, das auf die Erforschung und Bewahrung eines solchen "Memory of Work" als Teil des industriellen Erbes zielt.

In recent years there has been a revitalization and even creation of archives related to the world of work, including those generated by social actors of production, as well as by exchanges and services, such as private or public companies, cooperatives, professional associations, trade unions, political parties, guilds and employer's entities, mutual societies and labor law firms amongst others. In this context and from the perspective of industrial archeology what I want to point out in this article is what I perceive and endorse as a change of emphasis in society: the memory of work, a fundamental part of industrial culture, recovers again the value and preeminence it deserves. I will further critically reflect on what my research group has done and will finally consider the advances and difficulties of a research project aiming at the study and eventual recovery and preservation of the memory of work inside industrial heritage.

En los últimos años ha habido una revitalización, incluso creación, de archivos relacionados con el mundo del trabajo, incluidos los generados por los agentes sociales de la producción, así como por medio de intercambios y servicios, como los de las empresas privadas o públicas, cooperativas, asociaciones profesionales, sindicatos, partidos políticos, gremios y entidades de la patronal, sociedades mutuas y despachos laborales, entre otros. En este contexto y desde la perspectiva de la arqueología industrial, lo que quiero destacar en este artículo es mi percepción de y adhesión al cambio de énfasis en la sociedad. La memoria del trabajo, parte fundamental de la cultura industrial, recupera de nuevo el valor y preeminencia que merece. En este artículo reflexiono críticamente sobre lo hecho desde mi grupo de investigación y, finalmente, considero los avances y dificultades de una línea de investigación que aspira al estudio y recuperación o preservación de la memoria del trabajo dentro del patrimonio industrial.
