"Der Band beschäftigt sich mit der Frage, wie sich Muslime in europäischen Gesellschaften organisieren und wie sich das Verhältnis dieser Organisationen zum Staat darstellt. Neben Länderkapiteln zu Deutschland, Spanien, Italien, Frankreich und dem Vereinigten Königreich stehen vergleichende Studien zur jeweiligen Rolle der Staatsform, des Verhältnisses von Staat und Kirche und der Bedeutung zivilgesellschaftlichen Engagements, sowie der Chancen und Risiken, wenn der Staat im Bemühen um einen Ansprechpartner in die Selbstorganisation von Muslimen eingreift. Abgerundet wird der Band mit Beiträgen zum deutschen Fall, die die Auswirkungen muslimischer Identität auf die Selbstorganisation behandeln beziehungsweise einen aktuellen Überblick über die Forschungslandschaft zu Muslimen insgesamt in Deutschland geben."
