(Autorenreferat)... view less

"The significance of life-course-oriented approaches to working-time organisation is heightened in the current context of demographic change and profound transformations in the system of gainful employment and employment biographies. The aim of these approaches is to create new and better ways for employees to adapt their working time to their changing needs over the life course to have time for providing care and nursing, for recreation, and for further education. In this paper, empirical examples of working-life time accounts are used to examine to what extent gender and job inequalities affect the opportunities of employees to improve employability and foster the balance of work and care over the life course. Are women and workers with lower occupational positions equally able to save up time and to realize paid leaves for training, care, or early retirement? Logistic and linear regression analyses provide evidence that working-life time accounts depend on stable employment biographies and sufficient individual resources with regard to time and income. In this respect, they rather enhance than diminish existing gender and job inequalities over the life course." (author's abstract)... view less
