'Definition-oriented or constructionist sociology of deviance enjoyed a certain popularity in the eighties, because of its power-critical attitudes and its problematisation of victimless crime, where solidarity with offenders as victims of stigmatisation processes was possible. This situation has changed with discussions about phenomena of violence, where this kind of solidarity is more difficult. The author nevertheless pleads for a constructionist perspective concerning violence, and she analyses in this article the different forms of violence constructions in the public sphere.'
