'In the course of the EU enlargement in 2004, crucial attention was paid to the accession impact of ten new countries on the labour markets of the old EU member states (EU-15). Against this background the article describes methodology and some key results of the LAMO I & II (Labour Market Monitoring) projects, which were designed to observe regularly labour markets in the Austrian border regions with the Slovak Republic, the Czech Republic and Hungary. A particular focus was placed on the analysis of potential migration movements into the Austrian labour market. This review of the project results over time, which were of a significant importance for the political decision making concerning a prolongation of the transition period to protect the Austrian labour market until (at most) 2011, is being completed by an outlook on the follow-up project Monitoring of Skilled Workers (FAMO) that started in 2008.'
