"In narrativen Interviews werden die GesprächspartnerInnen veranlasst, spontane
Stegreiferzählungen zu den interessierenden Forschungsfragen zu erzeugen. Eine solche
Methode wird in der Organisationsforschung selten eingesetzt. Gerade das, was
Organisationen ausmacht, ihre Ausbildung von Zwecken, Routinen und Mitgliedsrollen,
scheint sich gegen die Lebensweltlichkeit des Erzählens zu sträuben. Andererseits sind
Organisationen Räume sozialer Erfahrung. Hier handeln Menschen, sie re/produzieren
organisationelle Strukturen, deuten Situationen, bringen ihre Identitäten als
Organisationsmitglieder und Personen ins Spiel, schließen Ereignisse aneinander an und
stellen Kontinuitäten her. Und wie man als Organisationsmitglied und -forscherIn weiß,
kursieren auch und gerade in Organisationen Geschichten, gibt es Heldinnen und Schurken,
Erfolgsstories und Tragödien. Die Produktion von Erzählungen ist auch hier 'the preferred
sense-making currency of human relationships among internal and external stakeholders'
(Boje 1991, S. 106). Es könnte sich also lohnen, die erzählerischen Kompetenzen von
InterviewpartnerInnen gezielt zu nutzen, um mit den Möglichkeiten dieser Methode 'hinter'
das Erzählte zu blicken, und neben den offensichtlichen Akteurskonstellationen und
Ereignisketten auch hintergründige Strategien, constraints und Handlungsblockaden zu
entdecken.
Der Beitrag beschreibt zunächst den möglichen Stellenwert der Methode in der
Organisationsforschung (Kap. 2). Sodann stelle ich die Herkunft der Methode (Kap. 3) und
das praktische Vorgehen (Kap. 4) im Interview und der Auswertung dar. In Kap. 5 wird ein
Fallbeispiel präsentiert, das zum einen die Probleme zeigt, ein narratives Interview
einzuleiten, und zum anderen an einer biographischen Fallrekonstruktion deutlich macht,
welche Aussagen diese über die Positionierung des mittleren Managements in einem Prozess
organisationellen Wandels erlaubt. Kap. 6 wendet sich der Frage zu, wie sich Ergebnisse, die
auf narrativen Interviews basieren, in die Organisation zurückgeben lassen. Kap. 7 stellt die
Methode in den Kontext anderer Verfahren, die Erzählungen untersuchen. Kap. 8 gibt einen
