'Group comparisons are used to investigate the stability of a statistical model in two or more (sub-)populations. If a parameter of a model is stable across groups, a common estimate of its value will be desirable. Group comparisons can be realized by two different strategies. In the first strategy 'group' is treated as an additional explanatory variable. In the second strategy the statistical model is specified seperately for each group. Standard tests are available for both strategies. It is demonstrated how the two strategies can be applied both to linear and non-linear regressions models. The logic of group comparison is illustrated by the empirical example of panel attrition. In this example it is shown, that panal attrition does not affect the relationships between voting turnout and its predictors.' (author's abstract)|... view less
