"Although the recession and the economic rebound proceeded simultaneously in Germany and in France, the economic crisis had different effects in both countries. In France, the loss of confidence of households and business as well as the tighter terms of loans have contributed to the recession - and exacerbated the situation on the labor market. Both countries, which had benefited in the course of the crisis from automatic stabilizers and economic stimulus plans, should further strengthen measures for the protection of employment without preventing the necessary structural changes in the economy. Furthermore, Berlin and Paris should use the crisis as an opportunity to reanimate the debate on budget norms and deficits on the European level and formulate proposals for a better regulation of the financial markets."
