Sufficiency-oriented transformation research is at an impasse: Sufficiency is widely seen as an imposition, politically marginalised, and met with defensive reactions. Yet in the context of a weakened welfare state and an intensifying polycrisis, it also offers new opportunities - as a twofold concept of "enough" and as a basis for solidary alliances. This contribution explores this paradox and asks how capable socio-ecological policies might overcome blockages in liberal democracies and open pathways to just transformations. Redistribution and basic provision: Using progressive taxation to secure a reliable minimum level of "enough"; Solidarity and responsiveness: Challenging neoliberal competition logics and ensuring the active inclusion of disadvantaged groups; Institutional transformation: Building new form of collectivity and conflict-ready participation to enable democratically negotiated limits.... view less
