Selektivitäten des Biographierens: Gedächtnissoziologische Überlegungen zu Formen des Vergessens bei der Rekonstruktion gelebten Lebens

Abstract

Biographie hat fast immer etwas mit Vergangenheit bzw. dem Rückgriff auf sie zu tun. Auch wenn es um eine möglichst vollständige Rekonstruktion gelebten Lebens geht, muss mit systematischen Restriktionen im Sinne sozialer Selektivitäten gerechnet werden. In diesem Beitrag geht es darum, das Weglassen biographischer Informationen mit gedächtnissoziologischen Begriffen in den Blick zu nehmen. Biographieren als Konstruktion von Biographie kann einerseits pragmatistisch und andererseits strukturtheoretisch untersucht werden: Zentral sind dann die Relevanzen gegenwärtiger Situationen des Retrospektierens sowie gesellschaftliche Bedingungen, wie sie im Rahmenbegriff nach Maurice Halbwachs gefasst sind. Vergessen, das zunächst als "natürliche" Folge fehlenden Erinnerns erscheint, hat damit soziale Ursachen. Biographisches Vergessen kann überdies bewusst eingesetzt werden oder zum Ausdruck kommen, wenn bestimmte Erinnerungserwartungen nicht erfüllt werden.

Even when it comes to reconstructing lived life as completely as possible, systematic restrictions in the sense of social selectivity must be expected. The article deals with the omission of biographical information with memory sociological terms. Doing biography as a construction of biography can be investigated on the one hand pragmatistically and on the other hand from the point of view of structural theory: the relevance of current situations of retrospection as well as social conditions as they are grasped in the framework concept according to Maurice Halbwachs are central. Oblivion, which at first appears to be a 'natural' consequence of a lack of memory, thus has social causes.
