Review: Willfried Althoff (2000). Lost in Cyberspace? Möglichkeiten Sozialer Arbeit mit dem Internet

Abstract

Das Buch beschreibt virtuelle Kommunikationsräume im Internet und Formen ihrer Nutzung durch Jugendliche und jüngere Erwachsene. Gezeigt wird, wie die neuen Interaktionsräume als "Probebühnen" für spielerische Identitätsbildung genutzt werden können. In einem weiteren Kapitel wird auf das "Lernen über das Internet" eingegangen. Die Qualität dieses Kapitel sowie die Bezüge zu Ansätzen sozialer Arbeit fallen gegen die anschaulichen Darstellungen neuer Kommunikationsformen im Internet stark ab. Ergänzt wird die Rezension mit Hinweisen zu online verfügbarer Literatur zur Nutzung des Internets für Bildung und soziale Arbeit.

The book describes forms of virtual communication on the Internet and their use by young people and young adults. It demonstrates how this new means of interaction can be used as a "test ground" for playful identity development. One of the chapters concentrates on "Learning by using the Internet." The quality of this chapter (as well as references to social work approaches elsewhere in the book) does not reach the standard of clear description so typical of the new communication forms prevalent on the Internet itself.

El libro describe espacios de comunicación virtual en internet y las formas de utilización llevadas a cabo por adolescentes y adultos jóvenes. Se muetra cómo los nuevos espacios de interacción pueden ser utilizados como "escenarios de prueba" para el juego de formación de la identidad. En otro capítulo se hace referencia sobre "aprender en internet". La calidad de este capítulo como las referencias a principios de trabajo social no es tan rica como la expresiva presentación de nuevas formas de comunicación en internet. El comentario del libro se completa con indicaciones sobre literatura disponible online para la utilización de internet para la formación y para el trabajo social.
