Review: Janice M. Morse & Lyn Richards (2002). Readme First for a User's Guide to Qualitative Methods

Abstract

Das hier besprochene Buch behandelt auf gründliche und durchdachte Weise sehr grundsätzliche Fragen qualitativer Methodik. Mit Blick auf eine Leserschaft, die eigene Forschungsarbeiten plant, untersteichen die Autorinnen den ganzheitlichen Charakter qualitativer Forschung und die hierfür erforderliche Abstimmung zwischen Planung/Design, Datenerhebung/-auswertung sowie die in diesem Prozess sukzessive zu vollziehenden Abstraktionsleistungen. Das Buch taugt ausgezeichnet für die Einführung in qualitative Forschung, aber da eine ganze Reihe solcher Bücher existieren, obliegt die Wahl letztlich persönlicher Präferenz: ganz besonders empfehlenswert ist Readme First, wenn NVivo im Forschungsprozess eingesetzt werden soll.

This book is thorough and thoughtful in its treatment of the basic elements of qualitative research. Writing for an audience whose mem­bers have yet to undertake any research of their own, the authors focus on the holistic nature of qualitative research projects, emphasizing the importance of making congruent the processes of research design, making and analyzing data, and abstracting from them. The book is an excellent primer on qualitative research, but given that there are a number of other such books around, choos­ing between them is likely to be done on the basis of personal preference: choose this one if you would like to, or are happy to, learn about NVivo software and how to work with this in planning and conducting your research.

Este es un libro meticuloso y serio en su tratamiento de los elementos básicos de la investigación cualitativa. Escrito para un público que esté iniciando cualquier investigación por sí mismo; los autores enfocan la naturaleza holística de los proyectos de investigación cualitativa, enfatizando la importancia de hacer congruentes los procesos de diseño de investigación, fabricar, analizar y abstraer desde los datos. El libro es una excelente introducción a la investigación cualitativa y dado que hay una buena cantidad de libros de texto, elegir entre ellos debe hacerse desde las bases de una preferencia personal, eliga éste si desea aprender acerca del programa NVivo y como trabajar con él al planear y realizar su investigación.
