Review: Andreas Lösch (2001). Genomprojekt und Moderne. Soziologische Analysen des bioethischen Diskurses

Abstract

LÖSCH legt mit "Genomprojekt und Moderne" eine Analyse der (vornehmlich deutschen resp. europäischen) Diskurse über Biotechnologie und Bioethik vor. Er zeigt die Konstruktion wissenschaftlicher "Wahrheit" und ihre Objektivierung, die Umsetzung dieser Objektivierung in Normen und Regulationen und die Rückwirkung dieser Normen auf Individuen, v.a. in genetischer Diagnostik und Beratung. LÖSCHs inspirierende Interpretationen machen den Band durchaus lesenswert, wenngleich seine empirische Fundierung stellenweise unzureichend ist.

With "Genomprojekt and Moderne" ("Genome Project and Modernity"), LÖSCH presents an analysis of discourses (mainly German and European) on biotechnology and bioethics. He illuminates the construction of scientific "truth" and of its perceived objectivity, the transformation of this objectivity into norms and regulation, and the effects of these norms on individuals—the latter mainly in genetic diagnostics and counseling. Due to LÖSCH's inspiring interpretations, the volume is worth reading, although its empirical foundation remains somewhat insufficient.

Con "Genomprojekt and Moderne" ("El proyecto genoma y la modernidad"), LÖSCH presenta un análisis de discursos (principalmente alemanes y europeos) sobre biotecnología y bioética. Ilustra la construcción de la "verdad" científica y su percibida objetvidad, la transformación de esta objetividad en normas y regulación, y los efectos de estas normas en los individuos, esto último principalmente en los diagnósticos genéticos y en el tratamiento. Dada las interpretaciones inspiradoras de LÖSCH vale la pena la lectura del volumen, aunque sus fundamentos empíricos son insuficientes.
