Review: Ralf Bohnsack, Aglaja Przyborski & Burkhart Schäffer (Hrsg.) (2006). Das Gruppendiskussionsverfahren in der Forschungspraxis

Abstract

Der Sammelband von BOHNSACK, PRZYBORSKI und SCHÄFFER verspricht Einblick zu geben in konkrete Anwendungen von Gruppendiskussionen in ausgewählten Forschungsfeldern (Kindheit, Jugend, Handlungspraxis im organisatorischen und gesellschaftlichen Kontext). Darüber hinaus offeriert er neue und weiterführende methodische Reflexionen. Zwar gewähren die meisten AutorInnen anhand von Transkriptauszügen Einblicke in die Forschungspraxis – konkreter in die Forschungspraxis rekonstruktiver Sozialforschung. Insgesamt eröffnet das Buch jedoch vor allem den Blick auf jene deutschsprachigen Forschenden, die sich dem Mitherausgebers Ralf BOHNSACK bzw. seiner dokumentarischen Methode verpflichtet fühlen und hinterlässt in Ermangelung historischer Kontextualisierung mitunter den schalen Geschmack der Selbstreferentialität. Der Umstand, dass großteils aus noch laufenden Forschungsprojekten berichtet wird, bedingt möglicherweise die oft sehr gut gelungene Explikation und metatheoretische Begründung des methodischen Vorgehens, lässt aber an mancher Stelle jene enttäuscht zurück, die sich mehr Inhalt zur Form wünschen.

This anthology by BOHNSACK, PRZYBORSKI and SCHÄFFER promises insights into concrete models of group discussions in specific fields of research (such as infancy, adolescence, and actual applications in organizational and social contexts). It also offers a wide range of methodological reflections. Most of all, it encourages readers to take a closer look at the practice of reconstructive research by presenting parts of original transcripts and their interpretations. However, the book only considers German researchers working in the tradition of the co-editor Ralf BOHNSACK’s documentary methodology, which—lacking broader historical contextualization—sometimes leaves an aftertaste of self-referentiality. The fact that the book focuses mainly on research in progress may be the reason for the excellent explanation and meta-theoretical background of the methodology, but those who expect more content to accompany the form may be left ungratified by some authors’ contributions.

Esta antología de BOHNSACK, PRZYBORSKI y SCHÄFFER aporta modelos concretos de discusión grupal aplicados a campos de investigación específicos (como la infancia, adolescencia y las actuales aplicaciones en contextos sociales y organizacionales). También ofrece un amplio rango de reflexiones metodológicas. Muchas de ellas animan a los lectores a detenerse en las prácticas de investigación reconstructiva que presentan partes de las transcripciones originales y sus interpretaciones. Sin embargo, el libro solo considera a los investigadores alemanes que trabajan en la tradición de la metodología documental, propia del co-editor Ralf BOHNSACK, quién – dejando de lado una mayor contextualización histórica – a veces se excede y se complace en la auto-referencia. El hecho de que el libro se enfoque en investigaciones en curso puede ser motivo de la excelente explicación y aportación de un bagaje meta-teórico sobre metodología. Pero aquellos que esperan mas contenido acompañando a las formas pueden sentirse desatendidos por los autores.
