Review: Manuela Boatca, Claudia Neudecker & Stefan Rinke (Hrsg.) (2006). Des Fremden Freund, des Fremden Feind: Fremdverstehen in interdisziplinärer Perspektive

Abstract

Der Band umfasst die Beiträge einer multidisziplinären Zusammenschau zum Thema Fremdheit anlässlich eines eintägigen Workshops an der Katholischen Universität Eichstätt im Juli 2004. Sieben AutorInnen unternehmen den Versuch, "das Andere" nicht primär zu verstehen oder zu erklären, sondern die damit verbundenen Wege des Wissenwollens kritisch zu befragen: Um das SELBSTverständliche von angenommenen ANDERSartigkeiten und um so manche beFREMDliche EIGENheit verschiedener wissenschaftlicher Zugänge zum Thema Fremdheit kreisen die Beiträge zum "Fremdverstehen aus interdisziplinärer Perspektive". Ein ausführlicher Aufsatz der beiden Herausgeberinnen rundet die Sammlung theoretisch fundiert und auch politisch pointiert ab, zumal der Workshop wie die Publikation ein ambitioniertes Ziel verfolgen: Die Entwicklung eines internationalen und transkulturellen Wertehorizonts für gemeinsames politisches und soziales Handeln auf der Basis inter- bzw. multidisziplinärer Auseinandersetzungen – nicht nur mit den Objekt(ivierung)en, sondern gerade auch mit den Subjekt(ivierung)en von Forschung und mit den Forschenden.

This book comprises the papers of a multidisciplinary workshop on the topic of foreignness/strangeness held at the Catholic University of Eichstätt, Germany, in July 2004. Seven authors try to critically question ways of conceiving foreignness instead of understanding or explaining it in the first place, doing so as a means of changing perspectives. The papers deal with the self-evidence of presumed Otherness and with aspects of constructing Otherness that appear to be strange indeed. A lengthy essay written by two of the editors rounds up the collection. The book is theoretically profound and politically ambitious, since both the workshop and the publication of its proceedings have an important aim: to develop an international and transcultural horizon of values for a common political and social agency based on multi- or interdisciplinary debates. The latter are conceived of as not only dealing with the objects of research, but with its subjects and with the multiple proceedings that lie behind the ways of getting to know the Other by constructing it.

Este libro reúne los artículos de un taller multidisciplinar sobre el tema de la extranjería/forastería celebrado en la Universidad Católica de Eichstätt, Alemania, en julio de 2004. Siete autores afrontan cuestiones clave sobre la concepción de la extranjería; previo a su comprensión o explicación, como un modo de cambiar perspectivas. Los artículos tratan sobre la autoevidencia de considerarse otro y con aspectos de la construcción de la otredad que tiene lugar por ser un forastero. Estamos ante un ensayo muy largo escrito por dos de los redactores de la colección. El libro es teóricamente profundo y políticamente ambicioso, puesto que los procedimientos, tanto del taller como de la publicación, tienen un claro objetivo: desarrollar un horizonte internacional y transcultural de valores para una acción política y social común que se base en debates multi- o interdisciplinares. Finalmente, el libro no se concibe solo como algo relacionado con los objetos de investigación, sino con los sujetos y con los múltiples procedimientos que vinculan entre sí las formas de acceder al conocimiento del otro a través de su construcción.
