Collective Responsibility and Solidarity: Toward a Body-Centered Ethics

Abstract

Praktiken wie "kogenerativer Dialog" und "Co-teaching" sind in Begriffen von kollektiver Verantwortung und – der erstere mehr als der zweite – Solidarität fundiert. Jedoch werden beide Begriffe im Allgemeinen nicht in einem umfassenderen philosophischen Rahmen angesiedelt, der uns verstehen lassen würde, wie menschliche Praxis mit Ethik im Allgemeinen und mit kollektiver Verantwortung und Solidarität im Besonderen verbunden ist. In dieser kurzen Einführung zum Thema zeige ich, wie Ethik in unserer materiellen Existenz, die selbst auf fundamentale Weise sozialer Natur ist, begründet werden kann. Ich führe eine konkrete Situation und ein Transkriptionsexzerpt einer erhitzten Diskussion über den Zugang zu einem Grundbedürfnis (Wasser) an, in deren Zusammenhang die kollektive Natur von Verantwortung beispielhaft dargestellt wird. Der aufgezeichnete Rahmen ist nicht-deterministisch, was uns zu der Bedingung führt, die inneren Widersprüche in andauernder konkreter Praxis zu überkommen.

Practices such as cogenerative dialoguing and coteaching are grounded in the notions of collective responsibility and, the former more so than the latter, in solidarity. However, both notions are not generally grounded in a more encompassing philosophical framework that would allow us understand how concrete human praxis is tied to ethics generally and collective responsibility and solidarity more specifically. In this brief introduction to the topic, I articulate how ethics can be grounded in our material existence, itself inherently social. I provide a concrete situation, and excerpt of a heated discussion about access to a basic necessity (water), in the context of which the collective nature of responsibility is exemplified. The framework outlined is indeterminist, leading us to the requirement of resolving its inherent contradiction in continued concrete praxis.

Prácticas como el dialogar cogenerativamente y el coenseñar son fundamentadas en las nociones de responsabilidad colectiva y, la primera más que la última, en la de solidaridad. Sin embargo, las dos nociones no están fundamentadas en un marco filosófico mas amplio que nos permita entender como la práctica humana concreta está enlazada a la ética, en general, y la responsabilidad y solidaridad colectiva, en particular. En esta breve introducción al tema describo como la ética puede ser fundamentada en nuestra existencia material, la cual es inherentemente social. Muestro una situación concreta y un extracto de una discusión apasionada sobre el acceso a una necesidad básica (agua) en el contexto en el que se ejemplifica la naturaleza colectiva de la responsabilidad. El marco perfilado es indeterminista, lo que nos lleva a la necesidad de resolver continuamente su contradicción inherente en la práctica concreta continua.
