This strategy is discussed based on the case study of the bridal motif in contemporary feminist art and using both the iconographic/iconological method (Panofsky), as well as the iconology of performativity (Wulf/Zirfas). The case study highlights the potential of active self-othering for feminist art within a conservative-authoritarian society. Already subtle breaks with the iconographic tradition contribute to the broadening of the rigid Russian visual repertoire of femininity.... view less
