Making reference to theoretical perspectives on doing in_visibility, postcolonial othering and the drawing of discursive boundaries, this article asks about the doing in_visibility and othering of queer refugees in debates about sex work, "welcome culture" and protection. Based on these three debates and the category of analysis "doing in_visibility", giving special consideration to the intertwining of queerness and migration/flight, this article presents the discursive boundaries that are drawn up. The extent to which queer refugees are, in the context of sex work, (strategically) made invisible and typecast as vulnerable is revealed, as is the extent to which sexual-gender self-determination is largely determined or even denied.... view less
