Moderne amerikanische Wahlkämpfe zeigen, dass Attraktivität weiblicher Körper und deren modische Inszenierungen strategisch eingesetzt werden, um für männliche Kandidaten zu werben. Am Beispiel der Nixonettes in Paper Dresses im US-Wahlkampf 1968 wird erläutert, wie konsequent sich PR-Kampagnen am damaligen Modehype der Papierkleider bedienten, um Wahlkampf für Richard Nixon zu machen. Modern political campaigns in the USA have used the attractiveness of a female body and its fashionable staging as part of the promotion strategies of male candidates. Drawing on the example of the "Nixonettes in Paper-Dresses" in the 1968s campaign, this article explains how PR-managers worked systematically with highly fashionable paper dresses to campaign for Richard Nixon. The article analyzes fashion strategies in policy which show the fusion of political and fashion performances and also the application of sex in politics: gender, body and dresses were used in the campaign as expressive, nonverbal communication tools.... view less
