Das Verhältnis von Stimme und Geschlecht ist in den letzten zwanzig Jahren insbesondere vor dem Hintergrund der zusätzlichen Komponente des Körpers zu einem viel beachteten Forschungsfeld geworden, was sich vor allem in Publikationen zum Phänomen der Gesangskastraten und zu Weiblichkeitsentwürfen in der Oper niedergeschlagen hat. Ausgehend von vier populären Schriften der Gesangspädagogik (Stockhausen, García, Tosi, Caccini) und ihren Positionen zum Verhältnis von Stimme und Geschlechtervorstellung lässt sich ein historischer Bogen spannen, der den Bezug auf den Körper als dritte Größe historisiert und problematisiert. Es stellt sich die Frage, inwiefern das Verhältnis von Stimme und Geschlecht auch körperunabhängig gedacht werden kann, und welche Rolle soziale und politische Verschiebungen dabei spielen, um Impulse für weitere Forschungen zur Konstruktion des Stimmgeschlechts zu geben.... view less

During the past two decades, the relation between voice and gender - especially when viewed against the backdrop of the additional component of the body - has become a popular field of investigation, which has resulted in numerous publications primarily focusing on the role of the castrato singers and concepts of femininity in opera. Taking as a starting point four popular treatises on singing (by Stockhausen, García, Tosi and Caccini) and their positions regarding the relation of voice and the idea of gender, the sources allow to paint a historical pattern that contextualizes and challenges the relation to the body as a third variable. The question arises as to how the relation of voice and gender can be imagined independent of the body and how shifts in both social and political climate are relevant to the issue to establish new vantage points for the future investigation of 'vocal gender'.... view less
