The central objective of this essay is to approach the state of gender parity conditions in electoral material in Mexico as a result of the celebration of the federal and local elections of 2021. In particular, emphasis will be placed on the results of the efforts to establish regulations and monitor parity in terms of nominations by gender and the balance that this had in the exercise of citizen suffrage. The review of the empirical evidence available on the matter allows us to affirm that while on the track of the elections for federal councils the advance towards the achievement of equity is practically a fait accompli, in the field of the elections for governors the novelty of the attempts of regulating and sanctioning inequities have had a success that for the moment remains formal and fails to advance towards finding a balanced citizen suffrage, for which there remain inequities against women that would point to the need for less formal complementary efforts and more oriented towards influencing issues of civic and political culture of the electorate and the creation of new logic of citizenship in confronting the potential of public management of people who move away from prejudices and biased gender preconceptions.... view less
