Anhand vergleichender Fallstudien in vier Branchen (Automobil, Bekleidung, Elektronikgüter, IT-Dienstleistungen) und sechs Schwellen- und Entwicklungsländern (Indien, Bangladesch, China, Vietnam, Brasilien, Südafrika) zeigen wir den Einfluss industriespezifischer Governance-Formen sowie nationaler Systeme industrieller Beziehungen auf soziales Upgrading auf. Using comparative case studies of four industries (automotive, apparel, electronics, and IT services) in six emerging and developing countries (India, Bangladesh, China, Vietnam, Brazil, and South Africa), we illustrate the influence of industry-specific governance forms and national systems of industrial relations on social upgrading. This leads to the conclusion that successful social upgrading depends decidedly on whether national unions have a sufficient degree of associational and institutional power to effectively confront dominant national coalitions in transformation disputes.... view less
