The purpose of this paper is to analyse how the Soviet Germans get instruction in their mother tongue in the Soviet school system. As the extended analysis of the Soviet-German newspapers and journals as well as the results of 27 in-depth-interviews show, the situation of the mother tongue teaching has not changed from the early 60s up to now.
