Zwischen Leidenschaften und Karteileichen - DDR-Fußball auf Kreisebene am Beispiel des Kreisfachausschusses (KFA) Schmölln in den 1970er Jahren

Abstract

Über die Spieler, Trainer, Schiedsrichter und Funktionäre des Fußballs der DDR auf der Kreis- und Bezirksebene ist sehr wenig bekannt. Dies liegt nicht zuletzt an der dünnen Quellenlage. Unterlagen der Basisorganisationen im Sport wurden zumeist nicht archiviert. Die Sammlung der Dokumente des Kreisfachausschusses Schmölln im Archiv des Landesportbunds Thüringen ist daher ein glücklicher Fall für die Forschung. Die Untersuchung seiner Geschichte zeigt nicht nur, wie der Amateurfußball in der DDR funktionierte, sondern verrät auch viel über den Charakter der sozialistischen Herrschaft. Die Ergebnisse stützen den Begriff der "partizipatorischen Diktatur" (Fulbrook), der hervorhebt, dass die DDR-Bürger nicht nur Befehlsempfänger waren, sondern auch Gestaltungsmöglichkeiten besaßen. So funktionierte der Kreisklassen-Fußball nur durch das Engagement zahlreicher Enthusiasten, die im Rahmen der politisch diktierten Verwaltungsstrukturen und ideologischen Planungsvorgaben den Fußball in ihrer Umgebung entwickelten.

Up to the present, football history of the GDR has concentrated on the Oberliga and the national team. Yet, very little is known about the most popular people’s sport there - the players, coaches and functionaries at the level of the districts. This is due partly to a lack of sources. Material relating to the basic organizations in sport has often not been archived. Fortunately, documents from the district league committee Schmölln have been collected in the archive of the Thuringian Sports Association (Landesportbund Thüringen). On this basis, it is possible to describe the mechanisms operating in amateur football, and over and above that, it is possible to gain an understanding of socialist control systems in general. The results of this study support Mary Fulbrooks' term of a "participatory dictatorship", which underlines the fact that people did not only depended on central policy decisions. They also acted voluntarily, motivated not by communistic ideology or a belief in GDR politics, but by their inherent enthusiasm for football.
