This study examined the relation between low-skilled industrial work, gender, and digitization. The exploratory approach included the quantitative and qualitative analysis of low-skilled industrial work from a gender perspective. The central results suggest that Industry 4.0 has not yet arrived in the companies being part of this research. At this stage of digitization, women seem to serve as a kind of flexibility potential or as a 'stopgap' in technical development. On the other hand, these search processes of labour organization and technology design include opportunities of influencing the upcoming digitization processes. The results should sensitize for possible interventions. They provide pointers to the areas of negotiating potentials, possible limits and initial approaches towards gender equality in Work 4.0.... view less
