Die Autorin befasst sich mit der zentralen Rolle, die Medien in der Konstruktion von Wirklichkeit haben. Sie argumentiert, dass ihre Berücksichtigung und die Erschließung ihrer Wirkung im Alltag in der Kulturforschung unausweichlich sind. Dazu führt sie in die Debatte um Medienforschung und disziplinäre Differenzen ein. Besonders hervorgehoben wird in dem Beitrag aber die Besonderheit der empirischen Kulturforschung, die Wirkung von Medien in der Alltagswelt zu erkunden und in größeren Sinnzusammenhängen zu kontextualisieren. The author addresses the central role that media play in the construction of 'reality'. She argues, that it is inevitable to consider them and their efficacy in cultural research. This point is supported by an introduction into the media research debate and differences in the way the various disciplines carry out research. A particular emphasis is put on the productive quality of empirical cultural research to contextualize media in the everyday world. The author closes with a systematic definition of the term 'media' to illustrate its connectivity in the cultural sciences.... view less
