The contribution on Dutch whaling and sealing investigates the extent and significance of German whalers active on Dutch ships in the nineteenth century. Special tribute is paid to the activities of two whalers from the island of Föhr, Hendrik Rickmers and his son Hinrich Braren. Describing altogether fourteen expeditions, the logbooks which have come down to us are of major importance for understanding the organization and practice of Dutch whaling and sealing some 170 years ago.... weniger
