The organizational arrangement of digital tasks is one of the main requirements for the Industrial Relations research. Technical deterministic positions have been criticized that the chances and risks of digitalization can't be recognized as path dependencies for the technical development, rather being set out by people and organizations. However, surprisingly is that in the previous discussion, the organizational involvement of digital tasks has not attracted any interest. In particular, this can be reflected in the context of a company case study regarding the implementation of a digital inventory management system in a business group. It became apparent, that this is due to changes in the pattern of allocated appreciation and causes an enlarged appreciation status of the department for data management. Therefore, it is hypothesized that the implementation of digital systems not only leads to consequences regarding qualification and employment policy, but also impacts on the organizational pattern of allocated appreciation. In conclusion, a proposal has now been developed to better understand the dimension of 'appreciation' as one part of the 'socio-technical system' (Hirsch-Kreinsen 2015a).... view less
