Paulo Freire and the recent his tory of education in Mexico can not be understood separately. Since 1968, he visited this country with some frequency. His ideas circulated in institutional educational sectors, reduced to simple alphabetizing techniques, and in subversive contexts where they functioned as a potent vector of social transformation. On the other hand, Mexico facilitated the projection of Freirean thinking on the Spanish-speaking horizon, and enriched it with rural educational experiences that were rooted in the revolutionary project and in indigenous knowledge. Paulo Freire y la historia reciente de la educación en México no pueden entenderse por separado. Viajó por primera vez a este país en 1968 y lo visitó con cierta frecuencia en las dos décadas siguientes. Sus ideas circularon tanto por los sectores educativos institucionales, reducidas a simples técnicas de alfabetización, como por contextos subversivos en los que funcionaron como un potente vector de transformación social. Por otra parte, México facilitó la proyección del pensamiento freiriano en el horizonte hispanohablante y lo enriqueció con unas experiencias educativas rurales que echaban raíces en el proyecto revolucionario y en los saberes tradicionales indígenas. Además, los sucesivos diálogos que mantuvo en Cuernavaca con Iván Illich influyeron notablemente en sus respectivas propuestas educativas.... view less
