In diesem Artikel gehe ich der Frage nach, wie Forscher/innen in Polen mit dem Thema Vertraulichkeit in Studien mit vulnerablen Forschungsteilnehmer/innen umgehen. Die institutionelle und rechtliche Regulierung von Forschungsethik und Datenschutz ist in den polnischen Sozialwissenschaften vergleichsweise gering ausgeprägt. Ich interessiere mich in erster Linie dafür, welches Verständnis von Vertraulichkeit die Forschenden haben und wie dies ihre Forschungspraxis beeinflusst. Zudem untersuche ich, wie sie in ihrer Forschung Vertraulichkeit praktizieren und gewährleisten. Die Analyse basiert auf qualitativen Interviews sowie E-Mail-Korrespondenzen mit 42 polnischen qualitativen Sozialforscher/innen, die zu vulnerablen Gruppen und Individuen forschen. In this article, I analyze the ways researchers manage the issue of confidentiality in studies with vulnerable research participants in the Polish context, which is characterized by a relatively low degree of ethics and data protection legislation in the social sciences. I am primarily interested in what approach researchers take on confidentiality and how this informs their research practice. I also consider how they attempt to protect confidentiality in their research. The analysis is based on in-depth interviews and e-mail correspondence with 42 Polish qualitative researchers who deal with vulnerable groups and individuals.
