After the war, the govemment of Czechoslovakia sought reparation and compensation for the traumatic loss of territorial and political sovereignty en 1938, followed by the Nazi occupation in 1939 and the división of the country into two sepárate parts. This paper examines the intentions and the means by which the Czechs and Slovaks was reconstructing and consolidating a country which before the war was multinational and in Central Europe an exceptional democracy. This search was accompanied by a strategic shortsightedness, after the war horrors they could not anticípate the world divisiace in two block. By allying with the Soviet Union, the Czechs and Slovaks did not recover in the time of peace the sovereignty they had lost as a result of the war.... view less
