Siglo XX: aperturas y exclusiones

Abstract

El artículo realiza un balance entre las promesas y esperanzas del optimismo decimonónico y la realidad contrastante de nuestra era, con sus incuestionables cimas -progreso- así como con sus pavorosas simas -retrocesos-. El autor hace hincapié en este juego de luces y sombras en el que ha devenido la historia del siglo xx que se debate, en sus postrimerías, entre la inclusión y la exclusión social de sus protagonistas. Se deja en claro el "fracaso" de las expectativas de progreso al develar en su análisis las ilusiones no cumplidas, así como las concreciones consumadas a lo largo de esta centuria, mismas que han puesto un "hasta aquí" a cualquier proyecto futurista ilusorio. Tras una crítica a la "posmodernidad", el autor propone una metodología -la "observación sociológica"- capaz de construir en concreto, y ya no imaginariamente, los escenarios de las sociedades futuras.

This arricie draws a balance between the promises and hopes of the 19th century optimism and the contrasting reality of our era, with its unquestíonable peaks -progress- and its frightening troughs -setbacks-. The writer points out to the contrasting -bright and dark- game within which the 20th century history envolved and how, in its final years, it is debating between the social acceptance or rejection of its main characters. The author makes clear the "failure" of the expectation for progress, for, in revealing the unfulfilled hopes, as well as the achievements gained during this century, it shows they have placed and end to any future illusionary project. After criticizing "post-modemity", he advances a methodology -the "sociological observation"- capable of building truly, not imaginarily, a setting for future societies.
