Este artículo es una contribución al estudio del destierro paraguayo, en el marco del creciente interés académico por los estudios de exilio. Como tal, traza los parámetros históricos de uno de los casos menos estudiados de exilio masivo en el siglo xx en las Américas y analiza el caso de Rafael Barrett (1876-1910), una figura importante de las letras paraguayas, su hijo y nietos. Al examinar el caso de la familia Barrett -en la que se identifican tres generaciones forzadas a desplazarse del lugar natural donde pretendían residir y al cual deseaban retornar- el artículo sugiere la relevancia de investigar los aspectos generacionales y transnacionales de la experiencia exiliar en las Américas.... view less

This article is a contribution to the study of Paraguayan exile, in the framework of the burgeoning study of exile in the Social Sciences. As such, it presents an overview of one of the least researched cases of 20th century massive exile in the Americas, and traces the case of Rafael Barrett (1876-1910), a key figure of Paraguayan letters, and his descendants. Analyzing the case of the Barrett family -in which three generations experienced forced displacement from their country-, this study suggests the relevance of research into transnational and multi-generational aspects of the exile experience in the Americas.... view less
