In dem Beitrag werden Zusammenhänge zwischen dem Zustand der Demokratie und dem Status von Frauen in Polen dargestellt. Die Hauptthese ist, dass die Unterstützung der Geschlechterdemokratie seitens der EU beim EU-Beitrittsverfahren trotz Forderungen der Polinnen ausblieb. Sich selbst überlassen, wurden die Frauen im Demokratisierungsprozess immer mehr zu den 'Anderen', die in politischen Aktivitäten der Parteien und in der Sozialpolitik instrumentalisiert werden. Die dominante antifeministische Einstellung zu frauenpolitischen Forderungen führte in Polen, insbesondere unter der PiS-Regierung, zur offenen antidemokratischen Politik mit einem anti-genderistischen Charakter.... view less

The paper discusses the connection between the poor state of democracy in Poland and the poor level of women’s political participation in the country. Its main thesis is that the European Union missed the opportunity to promote gender democracy in Poland during the joining process, although Polish women were expecting it. Left to their own devices, Polish women became progressively 'the others' in the course of the democratization process, used by political parties for achieving their own objectives. These all-pervasive antifeminist attitudes in Polish political culture underlie the present antidemocratic and antigender politics of the PiS-government.... view less
