 abstract = {Objective: To know the maternal mortality epidemiological profile due to pregnancy hypertensive disorders in
Alagoas state, Brazil, from 2004 to 2013. Methods: This is an epidemiological, descriptive, documentary, crosssectional
study with a quantitative approach of a historical series from 2004 to 2013, in a Northeastern state
of Brazil. Data were collected through the State Health Department of Alagoas’ database. Results: There was
a greater number of maternal deaths in women aged between 20 and 39 years old by hypertensive syndromes
in 2006, due to maternal hypertension with no specific cause. Conclusion: Pregnancy hypertensive disorders
are considered pregnancy and childbirth complications, and a major cause of maternal and perinatal mortality,
deserving special attention from health professionals, linked to maternal and child health.},
