In the Germany of the 17th and 18th centuries there is an almost unlimited number of juristic university dissertations and disputations. The sheer mass of this kind of literature suggests that one should view these writings not just as a literary genre but also as a sociological source for the unterstanding of jurist of the time. In the second part of this paper a historical, quantitative analysis of this material will be presented. It is possible, to investigate the social origins, the university course of study, the literary and occupational activity , the attitudes and beliefs, the level of culture and argumentation of the German jurists in this period both those of this research will be made available in a computer data bank.... view less
