Wissenschaftler aller Fachrichtungen müssen die Frage der zunehmenden Langlebigkeit in Verbindung mit den zu schaffenden Vorraussetzungen für psychisches und physisches Wohlbefinden diskutieren. Zu Beginn der achtziger Jahre wurden die Politik für alte Menschen, die geriatrische Praxis und die Gerontologie als Wissenschaft angeregt und beeinflußt von den Empfehlungen der Weltversammlung der Vereinten Nationen zu Fragen des Alterns 1982 in Wien und dem 'International Plan of Action on Aging' (diese Initiativen sind für die Staaten nicht verbindlich, aber die Sowjetunion hat sich daran auch beteiligt). In Rußland und den Nachfolgestaaten der Sowjetunion leiden heute besonders die älteren Menschen unter den Versäumnissen der sowjetischen Sozialpolitik. Zur Linderung der zunehmenden Altersarmut bemüht sich das russische Sozialministerium um die Errichtung Sozialer Dienste und die Ausbildung von Sozialarbeitern, die bisher aus ideologischen Gründen nicht vorgesehen waren.... view less

Scholars of all disciplines are called upon to discuss the question of increasing longevity in connection with the conditions that need to be created in order to ensure mental and physical well-being. In the early eighties, policies on behalf of elderly people, geriatric practice, and gerontology as a science were stimulated and influenced by the recommendations of the United Nations world Conference on Questions of Aging, held in Vienna in 1982, and the'International Plan of Action on Aging' (these initiatives are not binding, but the Soviet Union also endorsed them). In Russia and the successor states to the Soviet Union, the elderly are suffering especially severly as a result of the omissions of Soviet social policy. The Russian ministry of social welfare is endeavouring to mitigate the effects of rampant poverty among the aged by setting up social services and training social workers, hitherto considered unnecessary for ideological reasons.... view less
