Mexicans have recently acquired a new tool for understanding our elections: national political party membership rosters. Evidence shows, however, that, for all practical purposes, no correlation exists between party affiliation and how voters actually behave at the polls. A review of the vast amount of publically-available data makes it possible to suggest reforms that would simplify and make universally available individual, egalitarian methods of affiliation to political parties.
