This working paper outlines a research agenda that aims at studying the dynamics and consequences of socioeconomic contention during the current processes of political transformation in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region from a comparative perspective that includes an interregional comparison with South America. In doing so, the authors review the state of research on socioeconomic protests in the MENA region, sketch an overall analytical framework and critically discuss the contentious politics approach on which this framework draws on. In dem Working Paper skizzieren die AutorInnen eine Forschungsagenda, die darauf zielt, die Dynamiken und Konsequenzen sozioökonomischer Proteste im Kontext der laufenden Prozesse politischer Transformation im arabischen Raum zu untersuchen. Dabei plädiert das Papier für eine komparative Perspektive, die neben dem intraregionalen auch einen interregionalen Vergleich mit Südamerika einbezieht. Im Einzelnen umreißen die Autoren die existierende Forschung zu sozioökonomischen Protesten in der arabischen Welt, präsentieren einen allgemeinen Analyserahmen und diskutieren kritisch den 'Contentious Politics'-Ansatz, auf dem dieser Analyserahmen beruht. Schließlich stellt das Working Paper ein multilaterales Forschungsprojekt vor, das sich der Frage angenommen hat, inwieweit und in welcher Weise sozioökonomische Proteste die post-revolutionären Transformationsprozesse in Ägypten und Tunesien prägen.... view less
