"It is not an intensely investigated topic whether children start school alone or with children they already know from preschool. There are some results from studies in Germany, Switzerland, Australia and the USA. A German study recently focused on the relation between an accompanied school entry and children's transition management by examining 203 children quantitatively at four schools. Results show a positive relation between an accompanied school entry and children's social integration and attitudes towards learning in class 1. In addition, qualitative interviews reveal that children themselves set great store by the company of other children in the transition process." (author's abstract)... view less
