(Autorenreferat)... view less

"The Annual Conference of The Women's and Gender Research Network NRW addressed the topic of 'love', a subject which is traditionally assigned to the private sphere. However, the awareness of its political dimension is one of the fundamental paradigms of the New Women's Movement and of contemporary Gender Studies. Amongst other topics the talks shed light on the concepts of love discussed in the context of our current life-worlds, refl ections on love as a 'heteronormative institution', medieval depictions of leave-taking, discourses of the women's movement around 1900, female friendships in the context of the peaceful revolution in Germany in 1989, the new 'literature about fathers', as well as the relation between love and music in the 16th century. The keynote speaker was Eva Illouz. She raised the question of the impact of sexual liberation on women and men and its effects on romantic love. Many of the lectures given at the conference broadened the perspective on love beyond the traditional male-female couple." (author's abstract)... view less
