"In scientific studies young Muslims are often primary addressed under problematic perspectives. They are seldom regarded as just being young people concerned with age-related tasks and engaged in their social peer contexts. The following analyses address this lack of empirical work and ask in which way young Muslims live their everyday lives, spend their leisure time, engage in nonprofit and social organizations and construct their social relationships. Data from the AID:A-survey of the German Youth Institute show, that young Muslims live under disadvantaged living conditions with strong social inequalities. Controlling these disparities in earnings, education and family background, the results show largely small differences in leisure activities, use of institutional learning and cultural opportunities as well as social engagement and participation."
