(Textauszug)... view less

'In the following report a Russian and a German writer analyse the relationship between Russia and Europe. Rather than address the much discussed and often abstract question 'Is Russia part of Europe?' they instead look at conceptions of the relationship that have emerged since the changes in Russia, the two sides' perceptions of one another and the concrete steps towards forming a partnership that have been taken so far. The analysis were undertaken before the profound economic and financial crisis in Russia came to a head in the autumn of 1998. Nevertheless, the implications of this crisis, for relation between Russia and Europe are considered. Both writers believe that in spite of the crisis there are certain fundamental aspects of the relationship as well common interests and outlooks that have a long-term perspective.'
