(Autorenreferat)... view less

"This experimental study on the penal attitudes of students of educational science shows that in a 'between-subject' design persons with a typical non-German name are punished harder than persons with a typical German name. The results show this effect especially in cases of serious crimes like rape and homicide. To eliminate socially desirable response behavior the questionnaire was constructed in three versions with different names. The punitive content of the answers was measured by a special score which allowed to identify the subjective severity of the punishment imposed for each case. The results are a demand for further studies with an experimental design. In this way the subjective attitudes of the respondents can be measured better than with a traditional design."
