(Autorenreferat)... view less

'The present report continues our study of classical Russian philosophy of history. The first part of the study (published as Bericht des BIOst Nr.5/1996) outlined and analysed the theories of Kireevsky, Khomyakov, Danilevsky and Leontev. The main theme of the works of these thinkers is the special place of Russia and its relationship to the rest of the world, particularly to 'Europe'. Later, Russian history of philosophy became more mature, abandoning the practice of looking at the world through a 'Russo-centric' prism and moving on to a consideration of more universal historical themes. Two exellent representatives of this period are the world-famous Russian philosophers Vladimir Solovyov and Nikolai Berdyaev. Neither of these thinkers felt at home with a purely academic approach but instead took a lively interest in current social and political events in both Russia and the world and had - and this applies particularly to Berdyaev - a combative and polemic nature. This also explains why their ideas have such an influence today in post-communist Russia.' (author's abstract)... view less
