(Autorenreferat)... view less

'This report forms the second part of a study of political elites in ex-Czechoslovakia. The first part focuses on the communist nomenclature elite and analyses the historical and contemporary factors that have formed the newly emerging Czech and Slovak elites. Historical and current developments in the Czech-Slovak constitutional crisis are outlined. These themes are continued in the second part of the study, which examines the shaping of the new Czech and Slovak politcal landscape, the consequences of economic reform and the outcome of the parliamentary elections of 1992. In attempting to identify the causes of the break-up of the CSFR the study looks at the impact the process of transformation has had on the social sector and on the economy as well as examining the constitutional debate in Slovakia. Subsequently, the role of the ruling elites, the orientation of their economic policy and their motivations as the break-up of the country became imminent are analysed.'
