Im Mittelpunkt der folgenden Fallstudie stehen die politischen Veränderungsprozesse bei den neuen lokalen Rundfunkstationen in Afrika, die am Beispiel des 'Radio Rurale Locale Tanguieta' im ländlichen Benin aufgezeigt werden. Untersucht werden die Bemühungen, das Management des Gemeinschaftsprojekts 'Radio' durch die Akteure auf der lokalen und nationalen Ebene im heutigen Benin bereitzustellen und auszuhandeln, der Einfluss der Rundfunkübertragung auf die lokalen Hörer und die örtliche Politik sowie die Potentiale der lokalen Radiostationen, ein neues öffentliches Bewusstsein über den Demokratisierungsprozess in Benin zu erzeugen, welcher von verschiedenen Entwicklungsorganisationen und Gebern unterstützt wird. "This essay examines the processes involved in the establishment of new local radio stations, broadcasting in African languages in the Republic of Benin. One such Station, Radio Rurale Locale Tanguieta, is discussed at length. With reference to this case study the author aim to show the specifically political processes at work in: struggles to appropriate and negotiate management of the community radio project by actors an the local and national scene in Benin today, the impact of the radio broadcasts - as symbolic resources - on local listeners and grass-roots local-level politics, and finally, the potential - and limits - of local radio stations as means of forging a new civic consciousness in the process of democratization promoted by different development agencies and donors.
